Repurpose Is A Verb……
There is a point in many people's lives when we feel a yearning to break free of what has always been the norm.
The feeling that there is something which stands out, above all else in our life and we must discover what it is!
The word Repurpose kept appearing in my mental eyesight and something kept urging the meaning to come forth…..
Have you ever felt this way?
Why This, What Now and Repurpose What?
On a Wednesday evening in early November 2009, I was working with Wells Fargo as a loan document specialist.
I was working late that night on multiple files when I got the call……
“Pack up your personal things; leave everything else on your desk and leave the building immediately!”, was what I heard from my AccountTemps representative as I held the phone receiver to my ear.
Even though I remember those words being said to me, the words that started floating in my head were…..”well, I guess this means you're unworthy….what did I do wrong?……can I beg for my position back?……what in the hell am I going to do now!….”
The flood of emotions was intense.
The self-limiting voices of my own upbringing started to cloud the space in my head reserved for problem solving.
I was searching for a viable answer.
One thought became crystal clear, though – I am done with Corporate America!
Barb's critical thinking hit the same screeching spot as she was laid off just 2 days prior to my layoff!
Almost simultaneously, Barb and I, had the same word – repurpose – appear in our mind's eye and its meaning to us became our dominant thought…………….
Our decision to repurpose our life meant choosing it as a verb…….to take action and not let the rest of our lives be wasted by lapsing into mediocrity.
So, here we were staring at our life and wondering what we were going to do next……
Personal Repurpose As The Foundation
Have you noticed what the growing trend is, not only in the US, but in the world?
People are repurposing, recycling, reusing, and reclaiming everywhere and almost everything!
It's a fascinating shift in how we look at things and their importance in our daily life.
Barb and I felt the repurpose shift within us had to begin with “who we are” – what is our purpose; our mission; our legacy?
As you can imagine, the answers to those important questions didn't come with a guide book or a neatly prepared step by step plan to put into action.
And, as this self questioning process ensued, we plowed through our savings and our “retirement” accounts and found ourselves in quite a pickle.
Still, the gnawing inside of us to take a different path……to discover more of what we have as talents and skills and to forge a new life that painted the picture of what we are truly passionate about……continued with more intensity.
Nothing seemed more important than the awareness that our true potential is endless in scope and infinitely more creative.
We truly came to believe we are unstoppable.
Now we know that age, education, nor status in society, can deter the strength of our energy when we are focused on achieving what we point our attention to consistently.
We decided to reclaim our “birthright”…..
What we ALL have the right to claim is Abundance!
As we increased our awareness of our true spirit nature and started the discipline of daily meditation, we have experienced a tremendous flow of abundant activity.
It is in this consistent flow of energy that we are “repurposing” our life and it permeates everything we pursue.
We are the Repurposed Renditions of ourselves!
Repurpose and Re-invent!
A few years before our “re-awakening”, I was a woodworking hobbyist.
Many of my early works were started as a request from friends or family who would ask me to build them something.
Sometimes, if I had no requests, I would start creating something unique just to have a project to work on!
It was (and still is!) extremely therapeutic and relaxing………
For example, when my brother and sister-in-law commissioned me early last year to build a rustic 10 foot outdoor farm table for them (pictured at the beginning of this blog, where it sits today on their covered patio – overlooking the Blanco River in Wimberley, TX!) I enjoyed it so much and found that so many people felt my work commanded real and marketable value.
So, we decided to create Repurposed Renditions custom rustic furniture to give ya' our take on how you can repurpose your life into something with purpose and value.
Telling Our Story In Repurposed Furniture
Using furniture as the medium to tell our story made perfect sense!
Not only is it something I am passionate about but it is a perfect physical representation of repurposing our life!
Our#1 choice of material to “repurpose” is “reclaimed” aged lumber!
Salvaged from the turn of the twentieth century barns (and houses), this is lumber which once served as the dwelling for horses, ox, and other work animals.
In later years, it housed the family's hay, firewood, and family heirlooms.
It is wood infused with all the experiences of the people who used it to build the barn on their farm or their first home.
All the dings and dents, nail holes and cracks, discoloration and rough “live” edges speak of a life full of service!
(Below: the table's top just after joining the long boards and end cap boards together! Big isn't it?!)
Our Repurposed Business
Repurposed Renditions offers a wide variety of household and office furniture!
We create farm tables, parsons tables, coffee tables, end tables and nightstands, dressers, book shelves, consoles, etc. and just about any custom piece someone would like created for them! (See our photo gallery!)
We are so excited to merge our love for taking what used to be and creating something with function and beauty! Creating a “Gathering” place if you may….a place for new stories, new energies…swirling with the old wisdom inherent in every piece of lumber we use.
Giving a new purpose in the form of rustic furniture is so rewarding and has established a commitment to always be vigilant about our true personal repurpose and how we can share it with the world in every piece we create.
We wish you a life of repurpose and encourage you to reclaim your birthright……………
It is waiting for you!
Now, Go … Be The Extraordinary You!
